why people overeat??

“Forget about all the diets and the stupidity written about sugar, fat and protein,” he says. “If you gain weight it’s because you’re eating too many calories compared to what you’re burning.”

Sounds simple enough, yet many of us continue to consume more calories than we need. Here are some reasons why you may be overeating and solutions to help you overcome them.

1. You’re accustomed to overeating
People overeat out of habit, says Bärbel Knäuper, associate professor at McGill University’s Health Psychology Laboratory. “They ate slightly too much yesterday and the day before and, probably for a long time, [they ate] a little too much every day.” Knäuper says there are many reasons why people form an overeating habit, including learning the behaviour from their families while growing up. When you’re used to overeating, you become comfortable consuming more food than you need and the cycle continues.
The solution
“Realize that overeating is a habit, something we repeat every day unless we take action to change the habit once and for all,” says Knäuper. By simply recognizing that you’re eating more than you need, you can take steps toward eating more consciously.

2. You’re unaware of your calorie intake
“Lack of knowledge may be a factor in overeating,” Knäuper says. Many people are not aware that they are consuming more calories than they burn because they don’t know how many calories are burned during exercise, they aren’t aware of how many calories are in the foods they eat and they don’t know how many calories they need to eat each day.
For instance, a bottle of Tropicana fruit punch contains 170 calories. You’d have to walk for more than 40 minutes just to burn off a drink you may not have thought much about, says Béliveau.
The solution
While exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle, being aware of food’s caloric content is the most effective way to curb overeating. “It takes a lot of exercising to compensate for overeating, therefore [it] is usually not a successful weight-loss strategy. Eating less is much easier for reaching a daily energy balance,” says Knäuper.

3. You find food comforting
Who hasn’t reached for the Ben and Jerry’s after a bad day at work? And when you’re feeling sorry for yourself after a fight with your partner, it seems okay to finish off a bag of stale chips because it makes you feel better.
“Often we eat not because we are hungry but because we are tired or depressed,” says Béliveau.
However, we don’t often crave a veggie platter when we’re feeling low. That’s because eating sweet foods such as chocolate causes your body release small amounts of feel-good hormones, which can help lift your mood. And if you’re someone who can’t seem to stop eating after one square of chocolate, you’re not alone. “Sugars are processed very rapidly by the digestive system and create immediate reward responses or pleasure. This makes people indulge in them. White sugar is the fastest processed sugar,” says Knäuper.
The solution
Realize that the “high” you get from eating sweet or high-fat foods isn’t a long-term solution and will soon be followed by an energy low. But that doesn’t mean you should cut treats out of your diet completely. “If you go to a restaurant where the French fries or chocolate cake is good, eat them, but view it as a celebration,” Béliveau advises. Associating your comfort foods with positive events rather than feelings of sadness and guilt will help you control the quality and quantity of sweets and high-fat foods you eat.

4. You’re eating too fast
Remember when your mother told you to chew your food slowly? Well, it turns out that she was right. “Eating fast does not allow your brain to react to the satiety signal coming from your body,” says Béliveau. This will lead you to believe that you are still hungry when your body really just needs some time to tell your brain that you’re full.
The solution
Slow down. It takes 20 minutes for the digestive system to report back to the brain that we’re full, says Knäuper. “We need to stop when feeling medium-full,” she recommends. “Even if you still feel a little hungry at the end of the meal, keep in mind that the sensation of satiety will come with a little delay, so it's not necessary to take a second helping.”

Here they Come: Healthy or Not?

As you stroll down the supermarket aisles, you may be drawn to foods that - just by their names or descriptions alone - have a "health halo." With all good intentions to feed yourself right, products that tout the presence of yogurt or tea, or those "made with whole grain" may find their way into your shopping basket. If product descriptions are enough to sway you, you might want to take some time to really read labels and know what you're getting. That healthy-sounding food might not be as good for you as you might think. Here are some foods that sound healthier than they are:
  • Rice cakes coated with chocolate or caramel: Plain rice cakes made with whole grain brown rice are a healthy, low calorie snack food. But pile on the chocolate or caramel, and you might as well be eating a handful of jellybeans – which has about the same calories and carbohydrates, and less sodium.
  • Waffles "made with whole grain": You probably wouldn't put butter and syrup on a bowl of "made with whole grain snack chips" – but if you compare nutrition facts of these waffles and the snack chips, there's not much difference. Steer away from the refined white flour and look for waffles that are 100% whole grain. Top with applesauce or fresh fruit and some cinnamon..
  • Tuna sandwich: Don't assume that fish is always healthier than other meats – it depends on how it's prepared. Deli tuna sandwiches are usually full of regular mayo (at 100 calories a tablespoon) and can pack as many calories and fat grams as a fast food burger. Try lean turkey or chicken breast, or try mixing canned tuna at home with cottage cheese or mashed avocado for a healthier spread.
  • Granola bars: Granola certainly sounds healthy and whole grain, but many granola bars have very little whole grain flour and a lot of sugar. You'd actually come out ahead by eating a two or three fig bars – at least you'd get a little fruit.
  • Chips made with fruits or veggies: Just because a chip is made from a sliced apple, it's still been deep-fat fried, so it's loaded with calories. Get your fruits and veggies fresh - as nature intended - and satisfy your craving for something salty and crunchy with a handful of nuts or a 100% whole grain cracker.
  • Bottled tea beverages: Home brewed tea from bags or leaves is a healthy drink, but it's a far cry from a bottled tea beverage that "starts with" tea and ends with added flavors and sugars. And, many tea drinks come in 16-ounce bottles – officially, two servings. Double the calories and sugar as listed on the label, and you could be taking in nearly a third-cup of sugar with each bottle. Brew your own and sweeten lightly to taste.
  • Muffins: In many cases, you may as well be eating a package of snack cakes for breakfast. Many store-bought muffins are loaded with fat and sugar – and they're huge, often 6 ounces or so. At about 100 calories an ounce, one large muffin (which, according to the label, may two servings) could be your undoing. Bran muffins are quick to make at home (in cupcake-sized tins) for a healthier breakfast treat.

We need to look back what we eat. Most food originally is healthy but how we consume the food made it is unhealthy. Rice cakes are low calorie snack food but if coated with chocolate or caramel, they are no longer low-calorie snack. Waffles are made of fully whole grain which are healthy but if consumes with butter and syrup, the waffles are no longer healthy. As for tuna sandwich, when deli tuna sandwiches are full of regular mayo it contain s 100 calories a tablespoon which automatically made them unhealthy. Granola bars originally are healthy as they are whole grains however many of them little whole grains flour and a lot of sugar have instead. Fresh fruits chips or veggie chips are healthy but if they are deep-fat fried, they are already unhealthy. Tea beverages are healthy but after flavors and sugar being added, they are no longer unhealthy. Muffins contains large amount of sugar and fat hence, they are unhealthy.

my graduation day

My besties
My classmates
21st May 2013-the day I’ve been waiting patiently for. It`s my graduation day. The proof of me having a Diploma in Actuarial Science. I’ve longed for my friends and my lecturers. The day I’ll see their smiles again like old days. I’ve been having my diploma in Universiti Teknologi MARA Perak, Tapah Campus. Back then, I love my friends and the environment of studying was very comfortable. My friends are irreplaceable. They are warm and greatly helpful. Our Tapah Campus is located out of the hassle of the city. Every dawn, there will be a thin mist in the air.

Closest friends
On the contrary, I choose to be out of the comfort zone. When I pick finance as my degree I knew that I will be all alone, without my helpful friends. I want myself to be independent. So, now here I am standing on my own feet. Life is like a wheel; there are ups and downs. I might fall sometimes but I’ll never fail myself to stand up again.

my precious family

Raya Hajj 2012 in our house
Dearest Baba and Loveable Mama
Big sis and little sis

I belong to a not-so-wealthy family. There are nine of us which are my parents, my eldest  brother with his spouse, my older brother, my older sister, I , my younger brother and last but not least my youngest sister. My mother is from Malacca while my father is from Perak. My parents had known each other when they were working in the banking sector. My mother worked at KN Kenanga as an investment analysis while my father worked at Standard Chartered Bank as the third manager. However that was old stories, now my mother opens a day-care nursery just a stone thrown away from our house. My father on the contrary is already a retiree. He retires on his late 40’s as he took a Voluntary  Separation Scheme because of his health. He was once hospitalized because of his heart attack.

Eldest brother with his spouse
Second brother with his wife-to-be
Little brother
My eldest brother had been married for almost  2 years and I do hope that they will bear a child soon. They are both doctors in Hospital Ampang. My second brother will be someone’s husband on 9th  June 2013. He and his wife-to-be are engineers. My older sister is undergoing a SL1M program with Bank Pembangunan Malaysia. My younger brother is pursuing his degree in Mechanical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Tronoh. While my little sister is still schooling and will  be having UPSR exams this year.
